Cooking Greens
With eco-awareness at the forefront of the kitchen industry, the consumer is dazzled with numerous companies offering ever-better energy-saving appliances.
Other than lighting and heating, the cooking and cooling area of the home is one of the most frequently used. All kitchen industry players are providing greater demonstrations of responsibility towards the environment with badges and percentages, not to mention savings for your wallet (in the long term).
Induction hobs are the one area where you can really feel that you are getting greater performance with all the energy-saving benefits.
Induction is 40% faster than gas as a cooking method whilst being far safer. Working with electromagnetic fields, the heat is supplied only through the area that is touching the pan, making it 25% more efficient than gas.
Most important are the practical benefits. Unlike ceramic hobs, any spillages will not touch the heated coil directly and are less likely to burn on, making cleaning far easier. Professional chefs favour induction for the control as many believe it to be as precise (if not more) than gas. Super boost functions speed heating-up time to a fraction of the time spent with gas or ceramic.
One of our favourites currently on offer is the Siemens EH875SB11E - a Red Dot Design Award Winner of 2009. Special features include the warming zone, touchslider operation and 17 power levels for total control. The real clincher for the stand-out factor is the 'metal-glass' finish.
